Windsurfing: Felixstowe Dip Wind Direction: SSW Wind Stength: F4/5+ Surf / Sea State: rough Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: Warm Weather: sunny Max Speed: 19.5 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 1.6 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Left the trailer at the dip 12am to get a car park space then had to return
to Ipswich shunting family around. Went back to dip 2 ish and the wind was
up, sea rough and tide on the concrete - not my favourite scenario. Heavies
were on 6.5 so rigged 6.7 NP Hellcat / 125L Hawk, not the best kit for
rough water as its too slalom biased. Got hammered first run out, way over
and out of control. The Hawk was bouncing like crazy, so was Lucky to gybe
trying to get back then hit a wave on the way in wrong and went over the
top thru the sail. Balls with Locks for eF' sake, why me! Lucky it was
duct tapeable. Others changed down to 5.5's, sailing well whilst a couple
stayed big sail. Either I am weak or my sails are too powerful! Sea was
still rough, but all were handling OK with some waves close in. The old
school pintail boards always go well in this rough water. Rigged 6.0 and
yep the 'King wind died - great! 6 car trips back and forth 15 miles each
trip, didn't get a sail and bust the sail! Could have been worst as Craig
mast snapped way out and would have been in the pooh, but for the coast
guards happen to be sailing by. Nice bit of luck that. Several sailors out,
looking good. Sea was too rough for me so wasn't too disappointed, and
drowned my sorrows at the spa with Sauna/Steam / Cuzzi and cold beer, with
the biggest ham sandwich ever. Stuff windsurfing...... :)
